2016 POLARIS RZR XP 4 TURBO REVIEW

Four seats, turbo boost and yee-haw!

When Polaris released its turbocharged RZR XP, we sat up, straightened our spine and said, Now thats what were talking bout.

When riding in the deep backcountry in elevations greater than one mile, boosted motors turbocharged or supercharged make perfect sense to those of us who occupy the cheap seats in the Rocky Mountain stadium that reside above one mile in height. We like these seats, as we have an awesome view of many valley floors.

Polaris supplied us with a 2016 RZR XP 4 Turbo EPS. With four seats, pals and family members can enjoy the ride.

We have grown fond of our RZR XP 4 Turbo, so much so that when it comes time to part ways and return it to Polaris home, we will feel like a parent sending their kid off to kindergarten. Unfortunately, at the end of the day this RZR XP 4 Turbo will not step off the bus to our open arms. Sniff.

The RZR XP 4 Turbo has an open cockpit where its roll cage pillars do not block driver and passenger view.

The Turbo RZR XP 4 arrived in our backyard in early May, just prior to our adventure to Moab, Utah for Rally On The Rocks. While in Moab, we threw the XP into boot camp and said to it, Climb that wall. It did.

We asked much of the RZR as it rock-crawled along the trail Cliff Hanger. On this trail, with the four Maxxis Bighorn tires dropped to six pounds per square inch (PSI), the RZR XP 4 Turbo, with its transmission set in L (low) and its differential lock engaged (supplying power to the front wheels), the Matte Sunset Red RZR XP climbed up and over many gnarly stair steps with little tire spin. Additionally, drops were uneventful, which helped make for an enjoyable ride.

Cliff Hanger delivered knockout hits to many UTVs some expensive and highly modified UTVs. But for us, guest test rider, Danny Stowell and myself, every rock, drop, climb and wall, was ascended and descended with no worry. We had been taught by some of the best rock crawling masters, and with that, our sweet RZR XP 4 Turbo bone stock and with only 12 miles on it at the time lumbered up and over like a light footed mountain goat. No tore tires, broken axles, twisted half-shafts, bent A-arms or trailing arms. One might say, You didnt push it hard enough. Oh we did.. Come inspect the chassis bottom side.

Before we move on to more long term rider notes, lets give a few specifications.

The Turbo RZR XP 4 has a ground clearance of 13.5 inches, its overall length is 146 inches and its width is 64 inches. Its wheelbase, from center front wheel to center back wheel, is 117 inches

The RZR XP 4 Turbo has clean lines and a menacing look and stance. Though good looking, it is not meant to be garage queen.

Powering the RZR XP 4 Turbo is a 925cc, four-stroke, twin cylinder, double overhead twin cam, electronic fuel injected motor that produces 144 horsepower. But this 144 horsepower is not just for low valley riders; it is available for mountain climbers as well as that turbo charger makes sure you dont lose any power at elevation.

Motors generally lose about three to 3.5% of their horsepower for every 1000 feet gained in elevation. So, at 7,000 feet, a non-boosted 100-horsepower motor is actually 79 to 75.5 horsepower. Boosted motors, like the 144-horsepower the Polaris ProStar Turbo engine, do not suffer these power losses at high altitude.

Transmission is Polaris PVT (Polaris variable transmission) with P/R/N/L/H park, reverse, neutral, low and high. It has its own unique drive belt to withstand the clutches squeeze forces. We never experienced a belt failure or had belt slippage.

Front tires are 29 x 9-14 Maxxis Bighorn, while the rear tires, also Maxxis Bighorn, are 29 x 11-14. The four tires wrap around black-out cast aluminum wheels; these are non-beadlock rims. We would love to see Polaris include beadlock wheels on this torque-producing monster of a UTV.

The front suspension is a dual A-arm unit with 2.5-inch FOX Podium internal bypass shocks with compression-adjust reservoir knob. It comes with a stabilizer bar and has 16 inches of travel through its stroke

Out back, the rear suspension is a trailing arm design with 3.0-inch FOX Podium internal bypass shocks. These shocks, like the front, have a compression adjust remote reservoir knob. To limit tire scrub while diving into and out of bends, the rear has a stabilizer bar to work in tandem with the front. Rear suspension travel is 18 inches.

We used every inch of suspension travel when bounding up over the rocks at in Moaband at Rally in the Pines and while mashing our speedy right foot on the trails in Alpine, Wyo. and Bone, Idaho, we fiddled with the adjustment knobs to set the front and rear-suspension to our liking. When the OEM provides knobs, be like a two year-old and twist them.

The drive system has robust half-shafts mated to the on-demand all-wheel drive system, which we put to the test at every opportunity. Loose rocks, mud, locked down boulders, stumps and dead fallen Douglas fir trees kept us honest and the RZR in challenge mode; nothing broke.

Heres what Jarvis Webb, test rider, wrote after a weekend in Challis, Idaho riding in loose dirt and on high elevation trails with his family :

Our family had a blast on the turbo RZR XP. It surprised us with its comfortable ride; the front and rear suspensions are amazing. We were able to travel as fast as we wanted on any terrain without being bounced out, having the chassis bottom-out. The RZR had ample power and the handling capabilities to go where we wanted. My recommendation is to offer a full bench seat in the rear, with three children and my spouse we were one seat and seatbelt short. Also, with no front windshield, talking to each other and hearing others speak, was difficult.

Another test rider, Kevin Allred, wrote:

My confidence in the turbo RZR XP is profound, as I drive a 900. I find the power steering to deliver the right resistance and its seats to be comfortable. But, being a father and grandfather, I was rather taken aback when I learned of the XP Turbos fire recall. Yet, with it all, came a comfortable ride and confidence in the RZRs motor, its suspension, its handling and its steering.

THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

We must address the elephant in the room the Polaris Stop-Ride/Stop Sale Advisory for 2016 RZR Turbo models due to a potential fire hazard sent July 25, which came at a time when Polaris was planning on issuing its marketing information on its model year 2017 RZR XP Turbos. We believe this was a bad day for the sales and marketing folks at Polaris. We received the information from Polaris with a request to hold all riding until a fix occurred. Being compliant, we did until September 15, 2016; almost two months. Action Motor Sports, Idaho Falls, Idaho, performed the recall fixes. And good heavens it was nice to have the RZR back.

We never had a hint, not one, of any fire danger or damage on our unit. None. Other than rear doors that rattled from loose bushings and endless front suspension squeaks, the RZR XP 4 Turbo was flawless, and we have rock hopped, stump jumped and mogul bashed it without mercy. However, Polaris did discover an issue and addressed it. Owners of 2016 RZR Turbo models also received an extra 12 months of warranty coverage for the inconvenience. You can read more about that here.

RZR XP 4 TURBO WRAP-UP

As of this writing, our Polaris-supplied RZR XP 4 Turbo has 489 miles on it. It would have been doubled that had it not patiently sat in its garage.

This RZR XP 4 Turbo was mechanically sound, and meticulously maintained. No hint of smoke or fire, and we would trust it day-in and day-out. It is a machine very much worthy of ownership.

Near MacKay, Idaho, the RZR XP 4 Turbo spent much time exploring old ghost towns and abandoned mines.

The 2016 RZR XP 4 Turbo served us well. The tires, motor performance and suspension package proved stellar. We made some adjustments to shock pressure for terrain, and often returned the Walker Evans to factory-set position when in general all-around conditions.

The drive system, clutches, belt and shafts, delivered turbo power with no faint; no clutch or belt slip, and the drive shafts held tough. We also compliment Polaris on its engine breaking. On steep descents, with transmission set to L, and with a tap of the throttle, the RZR would slow and give the driver control and confidence; its engine braking system worked well.

With the 2017s upon us, this is what we recommend Polaris address. Front suspension squeaks and squawks. Though the front suspension worked well, the constant squeaking was present. Rear door hinges need tighter tolerances or better hinge bushings. Rear door rattle played in unison with the front suspension squeaks. The EPS jumped out of service twice on us, and we had to shut off the RZR, start it, and let the engine codes and EPS reset; once required disconnecting and reconnecting the positive battery terminal; a RZR without power steering is not fun RZR riding.

Also, the seats, we believe, could/should be a four-point harness system and with that, safety nets bolted to the ROPS (rollover protection system) and hooking to the doors. In Moab, we witnessed folks sticking their arms out their vehicle began to roll over. Another recommendation is for Polaris to add to the standard package, side mirrors and a rear view mirror. Backing out of trailers, out of a garage or shop can be oops-filled with nearby parked trucks.

We mention, perhaps as an early buy option (similar to Polaris early buy options on its snowmobiles), a roof, or rear bench seat with middle seat belt.

Of course, these owners can purchase all these from Polaris and we give a shout out to Polaris on offering these.

Polaris supplied us with a rearview mirror that is a video recorder, where a front camera peers forward from the mirror, and a rear camera peers from the backside. This, along with a two-way communication radio headset from PCI Race Radios, a ComLink RTX InterCom and UHF Radio, which Polaris too also supplied, made the boosted RZR XP, a part of my family, as we locked and loaded as ATV.com testers. We will report about these units in a How to Install article.

168-HORSEPOWER 2017 POLARIS RZR XP TURBO MODELS REVEALED

Polaris sets new standard in factory horsepower

Today, POLARIS RZR sets another new standard in razor-sharp performance with the introduction of the RZR XP Turbo EPS and RZR XP 4 Turbo EPS. Featuring a new ProStar Turbo H.O. engine that unleashes 168 horsepower the most power ever offered on a factory side-by-side the vehicles offer 15 percent more power than last years models and 9 percent more than anything else on the market.

To match the horsepower upgrade and significantly improve on 2016 models the 2017 RZR XP Turbo models feature new, high-capacity cooling, and a stronger driveline to get that power to the ground. The high-capacity cooling includes a new, more powerful, variable-speed, brushless fan coupled with a new, 40% larger, high-flow front grill and a 20% larger engine radiator. The new cooling ensures the engine can breathe for maximum power delivery.

Polaris RZR ATV - off Road Dealer

The RZR XP Turbo EPS and RZR XP 4 Turbo EPS boast the most premium suspension, with exclusive FOX Podium Internal Bypass Shocks that deliver the plushest ride and best handling found on a side-by-side. The shocks generate progressive damping force that gives the vehicles a smooth ride with all the bottom-out resistance expected from ultra-performance off-road vehicles. Large-diameter shock bodies (3-in/7.6 cm rear, 2.5-in./6.4-cm front), adjustable remote reservoirs and increased fluid capacity provide dramatic improvements in heat dissipation, fade resistance and durability. By using five compression zones to provide progressive damping as the shock gently absorbs bumps and stiffens to prevent bottoming, the Internal Bypass Shocks feel like five shocks in one. Combine that with three zones of rebound damping to minimize pitching, plus harsh top out for an ultra-plush ride and better handling over a wider range of terrain at any speed.

For ultimate agility, the vehicles feature front and re-tuned rear stabilizer bars to virtually eliminate body roll for flatter cornering. For quicker steering, both vehicles have a new 1.5-turn steering rack, paired with standard Electronic Power Steering (EPS). The RZR XP Turbo EPS and RZR XP 4 Turbo EPS industry-leading braking performance ensures precision stopping. The brakes feature large, triple-piston front calipers, dual-piston rear calipers, stainless-steel rotors and large 248-mm ventilated discs on all four corners, for powerful stopping performance.

The RZR XP Turbo EPS and RZR XP 4 Turbo EPS will be available in late 2016 in Titanium Matte Metallic and Cruiser Black. The two-seat model will retail for $24,999 U.S. and the four-seat for $27,499 U.S. Both models come with an extended two-year factory warranty when purchased before December 31, 2016.

First Ride: New 2017 Polaris Sportsman Big Boss 6X6 570 EPS

http://polarismumbai.com
Hunters and farmers have long used ATVs as land management tools, and with good reason. The machines are easy to operate, do many tasks including some that used to require a tractor, and are even a little bit of fun to ride.

There are limitations, though. Payload has always been an issue. For land management, it can be a big issue. This is one of the many reasons for the exploding popularity of the UTV or side-by-side. You do get a whole lot more cargo capacity with a UTV. What you lose, however, is the nimble, go-anywhere capability of an ATV. Even the skinniest UTV is wider than an ATV. Bridging that gap is the new 2017 Polaris Sportsman Big Boss 6X6 570 EPS.

6X6

The first thing youll notice is the Big Boss is a 6X6. The four 26-inch PXT rear tires are in constant drive, meaning youre already in 4-wheel drive. You can activate the front drive with a handlebar switch that also includes an active decent mode for steep downhill rides. Thats a very handy feature if youre hauling a load of fertilizer back to a remote food plot. In 6-wheel mode, youre riding a beast. A friend and I took the Boss through a sandy area that has bogged down every ATV weve ever taken through it, and the Boss never flinched. You get true all-wheel drive with Polaris limited-slip system. Theres no locking differential like some manufacturers use, but we cant see where its a problem.

The next thing youll notice is the massive bed. The Boss composite cargo box hauls 800 pounds of gear, dirt, fertilizer . . . whatever you want to haul. There are lots of tie-down points and the bed dumps as well. Its also great for hauling a tank sprayer.

The front rack is pretty slick. It is composite and has an extender rail with tie-down points to keep your gear stowed. It has a 90-pound capacity, but the really cool part is underneath. Two quick release levers reveal a sealed 6.5-gallon dry storage area. We used it to set our scouting cameras. You can pull up next to the tree, open the storage area and place a camera, all without ever getting off the machine. If you worry about walking into an area and spreading human odor around, this works well. Its also good if you have limited time and a lot of cameras to place or check.

Buy Polaris 6x6 Big Boss 570 EPS Vehicle in India

The Ride

Compared to a standard Sportsman 570, the boss doesnt have the throttle snap, but youd have to expect that due to the extra set of drive wheels, and weight from the cargo box. However, the machine does move right away thanks, in part, to those same extra drive wheels. Control wise, the Boss is identical to a Sportsman 570. Turning is aided by power steering, and the turning radius is pretty tight tighter than youd expect from a 6-wheeled machine. Ride quality is very good. Polaris equipped the rear end with a sway bar, which would be needed with four independent drive wheels so close together. It feels a little stiffer than youd normally expect if you were riding a straight-up four-wheeler, but with the 26-inch tires, itll clear trail obstacles with ease. There is really only one thing that was a head scratcher when thinking about and riding the Big Boss why only a 570cc? Dont get us wrong, its extremely capable. One would have to think, however, that with Polaris having an awesome Sportsman 1000 in the stable, the marriage of the two platforms seems inevitable. Not going to lie thats a machine we want to ride.

Overall, the Big Boss is like having a very narrow and nimble UTV that can help you manage your hunting property, and go on the hunt. It bridges the gap between ATV and UTV.

Polaris already offers 30 Big Boss accessories specifically for the hunting and working communities, including a bed extender rack, integrated winch and plow mounts, and yes, a tracks system in case you need a tank this winter. You can bet well put the 2017 Polaris Big Boss to work managing our hunting property this fall. And we cant wait to haul a big buck in the cargo box.

Polaris slashes ATV prices by half as import from China begins

NAVNIT MOTORS PRIVATE LIMITED
The American manufacturer recently acquired a Chinese ATV manufacturing firm Hammer Head and it will bring the ATV of this brand, as CKD which will reduce the price by half...

US-based ATV (all-terrain vehicle) manufacturer, Polaris has started import of completely knocked down (CKD) ATVs in India and expect the volume to double in a year, Pankaj Dubey, Managing Director, Polaris India told ETAuto in an interview.

The American manufacturer recently acquired a Chinese ATV manufacturing firm Hammer Head and it will bring the ATV of this brand, as CKD which will reduce the price by half.

The Hammer Head ATV is priced at Rs 2.85 lakh compared to the Polaris brand whose price ranges between Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 30 lakh as they are imported from the US as CBU (Completely Built Unit).
"India is a price sensitive market and we expect that by way of CKD, which attracts lesser duty and the cost production is also lesser, we have lowered the price of the product that will certainly create good volume," Pankaj Dubey told ETAuto.

Polaris has started its CKD unit at Faridabad in Haryana in the same facility where it has ware housing.
The ATV industry in India is still at nascent stage and has very few players in the space. Currently, Polaris is a leading organised player with a market share of about 20% while there are some unorganised players who import ATVs.

Currently the size of the segment is very less at about 1200 units a year but once our global competitors like Honda, Yamaha and others come, the segment will jump to 6000-7000 units a year in the next two years," Pankaj said.

Polaris ATV in Mumbai, Bangalore

Polaris has mostly sold its product to the experience zones and police forces, para military forces. Since 2013, it has sold about 20 percent of total vehicles to government institutions, which includes police forces of six states and defence sector including BSF.

Polaris, although on a small volume, claimed to have been growing by about 60 percent in the last two years while the overall industry has grown about 20 percent.

Globally the ATV's market is about 10 lakh units and its growth has mellowed down last year, however, before that it was growing at a decent pace. Europe, US and Australia are among the biggest markets for ATVs as in those countries, ATVs are used for agricultural use classified as Tractors. But in India, it is not qualified to be used as tractors.

Polaris India to start full-fledged CKD operations in 3-5 years

NAVNIT MOTORS PRIVATE LIMITED
An off-road track in a 5-acre property in suburban Mumbai called Tao Experiences at Roaring Farms became the 54th 'Polaris Experience Zone' in India on Thursday. Such experience zones offering rides in Polaris All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs)

Such experience zones offering rides in Polaris All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) constitute the largest customer group for Polaris India, followed by individual customers and government establishments.

The ATV market in India, at 1,000-1,200 units a year, is not big yet. Pankaj Dubey, managing director, Polaris India (pictured below), is bullish though that the market will grow significantly in the coming years. And that's when Polaris will invest in a full-fledged CKD assembly facility in India. "For CKD, we think the volumes have to be 2-3 times of what we are doing right now. It seems to me that it will take about 3 years or so of the models that we are getting from US," Dubey told Autocar Professional.

It is to be noted that Polaris India has started assembling a 150cc go-kart like ATV called Hammerhead which it imports from China. Polaris Industries acquired HH Investment, the maker of Hammerhead, last year. This acquisition is aimed at tapping price-sensitive markets like India. The Hammerhead is priced at Rs 2.85 lakh, nearly half of the entry-level price of Polaris' ATV portfolio.

Polaris and Suzuki (which entered the Indian ATV market last year) are the only global brands available here. Growing acceptance of ATVs and entry of more players will provide the economy of scale for Polaris to seriously 'Make in India'. Dubey says, "The industry size of 4,000-5,000 a year is when it would make us an interesting company to invest into this. That is what at the minimum is what we are looking at." The groundwork for the local assembly/production is already happening though. Polaris Industries has an international purchase office (IPO) in Chennai. The vendor base meeting Polaris' global production specifications is "growing". "That will create the future ground for us to get some components also here. It doesn't make sense to import all components and assemble here," says Dubey.

Polaris India has a land parcel of around an acre in Faridabad which houses one of its 3 warehouses and the small facility to assemble the Hammerhead ATV. Fresh investment will be made to set up a plant to locally assemble/produce Polaris models.

Going road legal

ATVs are not road legal in India. A green signal by the government authorities could lead to exponential growth in that market. Polaris has held discussions with government authorities but approval is still some time away. "There have been mixed reactions from the government. There has been no concrete proposal or finalisation. I am hoping that as some point of time they approve that," says Dubey. Polaris being the sole player in the negotiations is not helping much. Entrance of more players into the market and then approaching the government as a group will perhaps make the difference.

Recreation centres

Polaris Entertainment Zones are recreation centres where people come to enjoy the thrill of riding ATVs, according to him. Meant to create demand for its ATVs, they now number 52 across the country through franchisees, each with an investment ranging from Rs.20 lakh to Rs.1.5 crore, mainly in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra and this number is expected to go up to 200 in three years, Mr. Dubey said. Polaris also sells ATVs to the Army and paramilitary forces. The Army has acquired ATVs from Polaris for patrolling in snowy and the border areas.

Last year, the company reported 70 per cent growth in revenue, while its compounded annual growth rate has been over 40 per cent for the last five years.

Polaris expects to manufacture its full range here by 2020, Mr. Dubey said. Meanwhile, the company is expanding its presence in Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan by utilising its learning experience from here.

Polaris bets big on India, begins local assembly of the Hammerhead ATV

NAVNIT MOTORS PRIVATE LIMITED
Polaris India, the wholly-owned subsidiary of the worlds biggest All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) manufacturer Polaris Industries Inc., has started assembling Hammerhead, an off-road go-kart, locally to make it affordable and to meet the growing demand from customers, a top official said.

We have been here in India since 2011 but this is the first time that we have started assembling one of our products. We believe that Hammerhead will have greater demand as prices have come down by 20 per cent following local production, Pankaj Dubey, Managing Director, Polaris India, told The Hindu.

Hammerhead is imported in the Completely Knock Down (CKD) form and then assembled in India at the companys facility in Faridabad.

We started manufacturing last month and going forward, we may add new products depending on more volume. India is a key market for us and we see a long-term future here, Mr. Dubey said.

More coming

Hammerhead will be our No.1 product in ATVs in terms of volume. Once we gain traction, we will get more products to India. We see lot of potential in Hammerhead, Mr. Dubey added.

In a year, around 1,000 ATVs are sold in India and Polaris has a 20 per cent market share. The rest is controlled by unorganised players. With Hammerhead, Polaris expects to corner some market share from unorganised players, he said.

The product has come under the Polaris portfolio following an acquisition in China and is priced at Rs.2.85 lakh. It looks like a go-kart but goes off-road. Most hammerheads will be purchased by Polaris Experience Zones, he said.

Polaris Debuts New All Terrain Vehicle for Expeditionary Forces

NAVNIT MOTORS PRIVATE LIMITED
Polaris Industries recently debuted a new all terrain vehicle for expeditionary forces.
The defense unit of the Medina, Minnesota-based maker of ATVs, snowmobiles and motorcycles unveiled the new MRZR turbo diesel, or MRZR-D, last week at the 2016 Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC), in Tampa.

The four-wheel vehicle can be configured to various passenger configurations (two-, four- and six-person), transported by V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft and powered by diesel or JP8, the jet fuel widely used by the U.S. military and other armed forces around the world.

"The new turbo diesel polaris atv powertrain is significant in reducing the logistics burden for select U.S. services and many foreign militaries that have strict requirements for diesel fuel," Jed Leonard, senior manager at Polaris Defense, said in a statement.

"It could be to conduct peacekeeping, it could be how do you respond to heavy immigration challenges in Europe," he said. "It's really just a symbol of a united front amongst alliances and their partners."

he company made the modifications to its MRZR lineup of vehicles in response to feedback from U.S. Special Operations Command, according to Brendon Reedy, an acquisition program manager at the command.

"We suggested changes to improve sightlines and ergonomics which were incorporated," Reedy said in the statement. "Its nice to see commercial companies such as Polaris continue to invest in the Defense industry and were happy those investments have resulted in a turbo-diesel MRZR."

Other branches of service are familiar with the family of vehicles. For example, hundreds of U.S. Army paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division plan to jump in to Poland next month in part to test how quickly they can move their MRZR all-terrain vehicles out of the drop zone.

The Polaris Turbo diesel versions also available for sale.

82nd Airborne Division - USA Tests New All-Terrain Vehicles in Poland Jump

http://polarismumbai.com
The U.S. Army's 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne Division will jump into Poland next month in a test of their ability to bolster NATO's eastern flank in a hurry. It will also be a test of the ability of their new all-terrain vehicles to get them quickly out of the drop zone.

Col. Colin Tuley, commander of the 1st BCT, said the jump over Torun, Poland, by a battalion of about 600 of his paratroopers was meant to demonstrate the "readiness and deployability" of the Global Response Force to shore up allies and meet any threat worldwide on quick notice.

Tuley, a veteran of multiple tours in Afghanistan and Iraq and the former deputy commander of the 75th Ranger Regiment, skirted the question of whether the threat in the particular case of the Swift Response 16 exercise in Poland was Russia.

The goal was to show "really a united front -- for whatever reason," Tuley said in a phone interview from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, home of the 82nd, with Pentagon reporters.
"It could be to conduct peacekeeping, it could be how do you respond to heavy immigration challenges in Europe," he said. "It's really just a symbol of a united front amongst alliances and their partners."

Tuley's battalion will take off from Fort Bragg and rig in the air on the 10-hour flight on June 6, the anniversary of the World War II D-Day landings in Normandy and a hallowed date for the 82nd Division, which helped liberate France.

The troops will be dropping with about 10 of their MRZR all-terrain vehicles made by Minnesota-based Polaris Defense. (MRZR is not an acronym but simply a designator, said a Polaris spokeswoman.)

The four-seat MRZRs were still a "pilot program" for the 82nd but were intended to give the paratroopers more mobility once they hit the ground. "It's a little more robust" than commercial ATVs, Tuley said.

"These vehicles significantly enhance what would otherwise be foot mobility," Brig. Gen. Brian Winski, deputy commander of the 82nd Airborne, told Bloomberg News. "They change the dynamic and turn what would have been a three-mile per hour operation into a 50-mile per hour operation."

"Swift Response will demonstrate the allies' ability to respond to a crisis scenario from staging bases in both Europe and the U.S. within 18 hours of notification," the Army said in a statement.

The exercise, which will run from May 27 to June 26, will include more than 5,000 soldiers and airmen from Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain and the United States, and will take place in Poland and Germany.

On the jump into Poland, the 1st BCT troops will be joined by about 1,000 paratroopers from the British 16 Air Assault Brigade and the Polish 6th Airborne Brigade. At the same time, the Europe-based 173rd Airborne Brigade will deploy from staging bases in Germany to conduct airborne assaults onto training areas in northern Poland.

The second phase of Swift Response 16 will take place in Germany at the U.S. Army's Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels Training Areas, and will include another Joint Forcible Entry airdrop.

And not only that, various international off-road vehicle dealers have set up shop in India to cater to the growing culture of off-road adventure biking.

Buy Polaris ATV India

Terrain-specific vehicles include dune buggies, sand rails, monster trucks, rock crawlers, snow mobiles, hover crafts, dual-terrain vehicles, and military vehicles. Common ones include dirt bikes, quad bikes, 4-wheel drive trucks, sports utility vehicles, and off-highway vehicles that include all-terrain vehicles and utility-terrain vehicles.

Off-road vehicles have more ground clearance than vehicles for paved surfaces so that they can easily transverse obstacles likes rocks, plants, and debris. They have soft suspension and wide tyres to achieve small ground pressure so that they dont sink into soft surfaces like mud or sand. They are equipped with low-gearing system to help them cover rough terrains while making the best use of available power. The vehicles meant for slippery surfaces have four-wheel or all-wheel drive system for easy traction.
