2014 Polaris Scrambler XP 1000 EPS in Mumbai

Polaris is following in the footsteps of Arctic Cat and Can-Am with the introduction of its own 1000-class ATV – the 2014 Polaris Scrambler XP 1000 EPS.

According to Polaris, the Scrambler XP 1000 EPS has the highest horsepower, fastest acceleration, highest ground clearance and longest suspension travel of any big bore ATV.

Featuring a fuel injected 952cc engine based off the 850cc V-Twin found in the Scrambler XP 850 and Sportsman XP 850, Polaris boasts the new Scrambler XP 1000 EPS churns out an eye-popping 89 horsepower. As well, Polaris says the 270-degree offset crankshaft and dual balance shafts help the Scrambler produce smooth, vibration-free power. A new dual exhaust system is designed to allow the engine to breathe deep for maximum power.

Handling is aided by Fox Podium X 2.0 compression adjustable shocks at all four corners controlling 9.0 inches of travel up front and 10.25 in the rear. The suspension design is dual A-arms front and rear.

As the name implies, Polaris' electronic power steering (EPS) comes standard. Other features include matte black cast aluminum wheels, 14-inch Carlisle tires, hand guards, digital gauge cluster, custom seat, dual LED headlights and White Lightning paint.

It's pretty clear Polaris is targeting the Can-Am Renegade 1000 X xc with the new big bore Scrambler XP 1000 EPS. The Renegade was essentially the lone big bore Sport/Utility 4x4 until the Scrambler XP 850 was introduced last year to compete with the Renegade 800R. U.S. Pricing for the Scrambler 1000 comes in at $13,299 - $250 less than the Can-Am Renegade 1000 X xc.

You can expect to see the PolarisScrambler XP 1000 EPS in Mumbai dealerships in January of 2014.

Polaris Sportsman WV850 H.O. Mumbai India

Polaris Sportsman WV850 H.O. Mumbai India

In late 2012 Polaris presented its new Non-Pneumatic Tire (NPT) technology to the Association of the United States Army (AUSA), a “non-profit educational organization that supports America’s active Army, National Guard, Reserve, Civilians, Retirees, Government Civilians, Wounded Warriors, Veterans and family members.” By mid-2013 the company had signed deals with both US Special Ops and the German Army to provide tactical vehicles, giving the option of having those vehicles equipped with NPTs. The tires feature a honeycombed interior design to ensure they never go flat. Polaris asserts that the NPTs will operate normally even with 30% of the web damaged. To test its claims the company put in over 350 miles after an NPT took fire from a 50-caliber round. Further testing included 1000 miles with a three-inch rail-road spike lodged in the webbing.

Up until now NPTs have only been available on military vehicles, but in early 2013 the company promised the technology would eventually make its way to consumer markets. The announcement of the new Sportsman WV850 H.O. with Terrain Armor is the realization of that promise and Polaris will make a limited quantity of the vehicles available to consumers in December 2013.

“We have seen great success with NPTs in military and disaster relief scenarios and are excited to bring this technology to the consumer market for extreme work applications,” said David Longren, vice president of Polaris’ Off-Road Division.

The Sportsman WV850 H.O. is powered by the same fuel-injected Twin found in the XP 850 H.O. The WV is equipped with a high-capacity liquid-cooling system to handle extended rides and high temperatures. It shares the same double A-Arm front and rear suspension set-up as the XP, but comes with an updated shock package for better handling over harsh terrain or while carrying a heavy load. Carrying capacity for the WV850 H.O.’s steel racks is rated at 600 total pounds, 200 out front and 400 on the rear. The WV850 H.O. is a bigger beast than the XP, with a 57-inch wheelbase (up four inches over the XP) and a claimed dry weight of 1114 pounds. That’s 341 pounds more than the XP 850 H.O. The WV850 H.O. is also slightly longer, wider and taller than the XP but has a quarter of an inch less ground clearance as 11.25 inches.

The NPTs have been dubbed “Terrain Armor” tires and Polaris asserts that, in addition to never going flat, the tires will contribute to a lower center of gravity and help improve cornering ability on the Sportsman. Also included in the new WV850 H.O. is a military-grade, single-gear automatic transmission with forward and reverse. The machine comes with a two-inch receive hitch that can tow up to 1500 pounds and a 3500-pound winch. The WV850 H.O. will carry 11.75 gallons of fuel total, 6.5 gallons of which is held in reserve, and comes with Electronic Power Steering standard.

Other military-grade features include the shift-lever lock, push bumper, full body steel exoskeleton, updated chassis and wider footwells.

There is no MSRP listed as yet for the WV850 H.O., which will only be available in Polaris’ Avalanche Grey colorway.

2014 Polaris Scrambler 1000 & Ranger XP 900 in Mumbai

Polaris has announced two new models to its already expanded off-road line-up for 2014: a beefed-up Scrambler 1000 XP EPS and a sport-styled Ranger XP 900 Deluxe.

“In just the past four months, Polaris has introduced nine new vehicles to its off-road line-up,” said David Longren, vice president of Polaris’ Off-Road Division. “The Scrambler XP 1000 EPS and RANGER XP 900 Deluxe Editions provide off-road enthusiasts with more options for high-powered recreational vehicles.”

The Scrambler 1000 XP EPS is a bored-out version of the XP 850 H.O. introduced in 2013 and features a 952cc liquid-cooled Twin based on its smaller cousin. The 1000 XP EPS comes with electronic fuel injection, a shaft-driven automatic PVT transmission, On-Demand all-wheel and two-wheel drive and dual A-arm suspension in the front and rear. The engorged engine has a 270-degree offset crankshaft with dual balance shafts to smooth vibration. A new dual exhaust system optimizes power output. Fox Podium X 2.0 compression adjustable shocks link to the A-arms front and rear and feature 9 inches of travel out front, 10.25 inches out back.

The Scrambler 1000 XP EPS has a claimed payload capacity of 290 pounds, hitch towing rating of 1500 pounds and an unbraked trailer towing capacity of 1914 pounds. The front racks will carry 25 pounds of cargo and the rear box holds up to 50 pounds. The XP EPS rolls on matte black eight-spoke cast aluminum wheels shod in 14-inch Carlisle tires and has a claimed dry weight of 767 pounds.

The Ranger XP 900 Deluxe features the same specs as the Ranger XP 900 EPS but comes with a sportified cockpit that features bucket seats, a center console with integrated storage, factory installed audio system and color-matched half-doors for more protection during tight trail rides. The new Nuclear Sunset Orange color scheme highlights the sport-styled refinements to the XP 900 Deluxe. The 875cc Twin-powered XP 900 Deluxe is still a workhorse however, with a rear rack/box capacity of 1000 pounds, payload capacity of 1500 pounds and a hitch towing rating of 2000 pounds.

Both the Scrambler 1000 XP EPS and Ranger XP 900 Deluxe will hit dealerships in January 2014. MSRP has yet to be announced.
